Refers to a CD-ROM drive that spins the disc at twice the speed of a normal drive. The advantage of this is that the data can be read from the disc twice as fast (since the disc is travelling past the read head at twice the speed) and so you'll notice that the response of multimedia titles is quicker and programs load faster. In fact, double-speed CD-ROM drives are now the standard. For fast drives you need a quad-speed or six-times speed drive!
